White Trash

The legend of “White Trash” grows each time this recipe is shared.

Allegedly, the owners of a small candy shop in the south came up with this concoction.  This highly addictive mix became so popular with the townspeople they couldn’t keep up with the demand.  Finally they decided to ditch the mixing bowls and make the confection in garbage cans (clean I’m sure.)

After one batch of this crowd pleaser, we are certain you will understand the obsession people have with white trash.

  • 2 Pounds Merckens White Wafers
  • 9 Cups Rice or Wheat Chex Cereal**
  • 3 Cups Cheerios Cereal**
  • 3 Cups Mini Pretzels**
  • 3 Cups Unsalted Peanuts if desired**
  • **or any combination totaling 18 cups

>Melt the chocolate in a plastic microwave safe bowl on medium heat for 30 second intervals until melted.  See basic melting instructions for more detail if required.

>Mix together remaining ingredients in a large mixing bowl.

>Pour the melted chocolate over the mixture slowly stirring constantly until coated.

>Spread out on a cookie sheet lined with waxed paper.

>Chill in the freezer 3-5 minutes until firm.

>Break into pieces and dive in.

Feel free to play around with this recipe.  With so many allergy concerns you may want to leave out the peanuts.  It’s delicious anyway.  Add mini m & m or mini kisses.  Decorate by drizzling a colored chocolate or sprinkling with jimmies or non-parriells.

We can almost guarantee your first batch won’t be your last.
